By embracing the theory of extraterritoriality, the European Climate Law embodies the EU’s commitment to combating climate change through collaborative global efforts and envisions an ambition beyond its formal borders. Recognizing that the EU’s climate objectives can only be fully realized through involving countries worldwide, this particular domain of law acknowledges the interconnectedness of climate impacts and asserts the EU’s role as a global leader in shaping climate policies across different countries. Echoing this, the paper examines the external applicability of the EU’s climate law and policy after adopting the European Climate Law with a binding emission reduction target and governance framework. It specifically elicits and analyses the consequences of the EU climate-neutrality objective towards 2050 over the neighbouring territories of the EU and particularly zooms in on Southeast Europe with a focus on Georgia to enrich the paper with practical examples.
