The simulation requires each student to play the role of a particular senator representing a particular state. Your instructor will assign you a senator, or potentially provide a process for you to choose a senator. The process to assign senators will vary by class, though it will likely have a largely random component which will mean that you may be representing a senator with which you fundamentally disagree. This is an excellent opportunity to check your own opinions at the door and learn a valuable lesson about politics: that politicians from both sides are essentially motivated by the same underlying goal, reelection.
