Yamuna River is one of the major water streams that flow from the capital region of Delhi. All along its banks, the city has substantial open space which is neglected and underutilized. This great open space does not have any accessibility and visible character in the urban fabric. The riverfront is highly disconnected with a thin city structure and limited public activities are seen in this zone. The present condition of the riverfront is captured by highly polluting industries and slums. The riverfront lacks public, recreational and safety measures. Due to continuous neglect, the quality of the river and its surrounding areas is deteriorating day by day. This open space along the Yamuna River is an ideal location for activity areas with public spaces. Research demonstrates that the Yamuna riverfront would be a significant alternative for recreational areas and a waterfront along with a garden system can be developed as a sustainable and attractive alternative. This paper mainly aims to bring back the Yamuna in the city structure and rejuvenate the riverfront through ecological and sustainable design features.
