Impoliteness Triggers in Private-School Classroom Interactions
摘要
This investigation examined impoliteness acts and responses in classroom interaction. 62 situated impolite actions and reactions were collected, filtrated and analyzed utilizing Culpeper’s (Culpeper in Impoliteness strategies. Springer, Dordrecht, pp. 412–445 [1]) bottom-up model of impoliteness triggers. It was found that the most frequent impoliteness trigger was the conventionalized insult and the least frequent was the implicational context-driven. As a result, the study concluded that students’ impolite behavior can be manifested with relation to their lack of upbringing and teachers’ impolite behavior can be represented with relation to their lack of classroom management. The study recommended that this paper can be beneficial for teachers to prevent intervening in impolite exchanges, as well as students to appreciate and respect the arena they fall under.
