The Impact of Globalization on Translation Business Models: Insights from Freelancers
摘要
Explores the impact of globalization on the translation industry by analyzing how freelance translators behave and respond to it through the prism of an innovative framework, namely three core translator business models (traditional agencies, technology-enabled ‘new age’ companies and freelancers) implemented in a research project based on mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative research using secondary and primary data). By examining how freelance translators resort to profiling and strategizing to respond to the dominant forces of globalization, this study sheds light on the evolving landscape of the translation profession in light of the key driving forces of globalization. By providing researchers with empirical evidence on the performance of freelance translators who are at the heart of the translation industry, the study draws lessons for practitioners and companies to address remaining challenges, secure future opportunities and strategize for continued growth in a globalized marketplace.
