Securing the future of industrial agriculture necessitates addressing critical challenges including pest damage, environmental stress, and yield limitations. RNA interference technology is a promising solution, offering precise gene silencing to overcome these hurdles. This chapter explores the potential of RNAi for enhancing commercially valuable traits in industrial crops. RNAi allows for targeting specific genes involved in plant growth, development, and product quality. RNAi unlocks the potential to engineer crops with higher biomass, yield, improved nutritional content, tailored fiber/starch ratios, durable pest resistance, and improved environmental stress tolerance for industrial applications. The targeted approach paves the way for developing eco-friendly and sustainable solutions, ultimately leading to a more secure and productive agricultural future.
