This chapter covers the handling of surgical ophthalmic pathology specimens in the theatre and the pathology laboratory. The handling of the specimens in theatre covers fresh tissue handling for frozen sections, which fixatives are required for the various specimens, orientation of specimens, and how to communicate clearly with pathology colleagues by filling out the pathology request form adequately. The handling of the specimens in the pathology laboratory covers how pathologists approach the grossing/macroscopic examination of select specimens, including eyelid tumour resections, mapping biopsies, fresh tissue destined for frozen tissue, cytology specimens enucleation and exenteration specimens.
