Toxicology in the twenty-first century (Tox-21) is a multidisciplinary approach that combines high-throughput screening (HTS), in silico models, and omics tools, with the goal of quick and advanced toxicity assessments of organic pollutants in the marine environment. Tox-21 is used to predict the toxicity of legacy organic pollutants, including polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The integration of Tox-21 with omics data enables the identification of important toxicity pathways and possible targets for risk assessment. This chapter focuses on the current methods for predicting toxicity of marine organic pollutants.
