Feedback from Biology to Contact Mechanics: Friction as Interlocking
摘要
Modification of Tomlinson-PrandtlTomlinson-Prandtl model is proposed which describes frictionFriction as a sequence of interlockingInterlocking events leading to the typical “stick–slip” friction curves. It is shown that effective “friction” caused by the interlocking can anomalously depend on the pulling velocity. In particular, it can demonstrate a negative branch, where effective friction decreases with the velocity. This anomalous dependence can be important for the understanding of physical processes at different scales from biological attachment devices at the microscopic scale to the tectonic processes at the macroscale.
