Fabrikant’s approximation for the pressure distribution in the contact between a flat-ended rigid punch with an arbitrary shape and an elastic half-space is numerically evaluated using the Fast Fourier Transform-assisted Boundary Element Method (BEM). Two types of punch shapes are investigated: regular polygonal profiles and randomly generated shapes. For the given load, the elastic contact between the rigid flat-ended punch and the elastic half-space is simulated, and the resulting pressure distribution, normal surface displacement, and normal contact stiffness are compared with Fabrikant’s approximate solution.
