Women’s perceptions of safety at [informal] “backyard” shows versus [formal shows] can vary based on various factors. Traditional [formal] venues may be “perceived” as safer due to the presence of security staff, controlled access points, and safety protocols. [Informal] backyard shows, on the other hand, might be seen as less safe due to the lack of security and the unfamiliarity of the environment. However, it is important to note that perceptions of safety can also be influenced by specific things like the reputation of the organizer, the local community, and the individual’s experience. Some women might feel equally safe or even safer at backyard shows if they trust the host and feel a sense of community and familiarity. I believe that people’s mental and physical state play[s] a role in [informal] backyard or [formal] venue [show] safety. Many people attend to support the scene, for the love of music, and also as a way to blow off steam—a way to let [out] some anger. There are situations where people are present with malicious intent. In my opinion, nobody is secure at that point, but ultimately, everything depends upon who you are with and where.
