This chapter presents the results from an experimental study that focused on authorship. Young people were presented with stories presented on the Facebook platform that appeared to be authored by either a traditional news organization or a corporate entity. They were then asked to rate the perceived credibility of the stories they read and the organization that authored the stories. Results show young people do not perceive news that comes from a traditional news organization on the Facebook platform as any more credible than news that appears to be from a corporate entity on that same platform. It appears young people may not be paying attention to, or simply do not care about, the source of a story.

摘要

This chapter presents the results from an experimental study that focused on authorship. Young people were presented with stories presented on the Facebook platform that appeared to be authored by either a traditional news organization or a corporate entity. They were then asked to rate the perceived credibility of the stories they read and the organization that authored the stories. Results show young people do not perceive news that comes from a traditional news organization on the Facebook platform as any more credible than news that appears to be from a corporate entity on that same platform. It appears young people may not be paying attention to, or simply do not care about, the source of a story.
