Inadequate management of surplus household food poses severe sustainability challenges that affect the well-being of individuals, communities, society, and the natural environment. Although several digital food initiatives have been implemented to minimize household food waste, there is an increasing demand for pragmatic interventions to manage and redistribute surplus household food. Integrating advanced technologies of artificial intelligence (AI) into digital food management systems is crucial in settings where individuals want to engage in sustainable consumption practices, but firms have so far struggled to align consumer sentiment and needs with the solutions they offer. Therefore, it is imperative to assimilate AI strategies that are individually responsive and adaptive to consumer needs. Integrating such approaches into the existing or future digital initiatives enables households to manage better and redistribute surplus food while addressing rising food insecurity and household food waste. This chapter highlights the transformative role of AI in food management and redistribution apps to engage consumers, and it provides a roadmap to harness AI’s potential toward circular food transitions for a sustainable future.

摘要
