Media Roles and Effective Communication for Food Security in Nigeria

This chapter used a mixed-methods approach to investigates the extent of effective communication by the media as well as its role in propagating food security in Nigeria. The development media theory served as the theoretical foundation of the investigation. Results showed that to a large extent, the media promotes food security in order to attain the second SDG goal of ending hunger in Nigeria. Findings further revealed that effective communication through the media has the propensity to promote the SDG goal of production and consumption patterns in Nigeria. It was concluded that the media, to a large extent, promotes food security in order to meet the SDG goal of ending hunger, particularly as it relates to Nigeria, where hunger is ravaging people. Secondly, through effective communication, the SDG goal on production and consumption patterns can be encouraged and promoted because effective communication has the capacity to engender positive change.
