Evaluation of the Nigerian Media’s Development Communication Agenda in the Post-covid Era
摘要
This chapter was designed to evaluate how the Nigerian media fared in their reportage during the COVID-19 period, amidst other burning national issues. A quantitative content analysis method was adopted to examine the extent of coverage the media gave to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as other burning development issues during the global health crisis. It was found that the media primarily focused on the pandemic while neglecting other urgent issues that could adversely affect national development. It is therefore recommended that the media should collaborate with research institutions in the country to access relevant data on the various development indices that could facilitate holistic coverage of issues centred on development, even in the face of a global health emergency.
