In Norway, several power projects have encroached on the Indigenous and environmental rights of the Sámi people, starting with the construction of the Alta Dam power project in the 1980s. This entailed the establishment of the Sámi Parliament and stronger Indigenous rights in Norway, and however in recent years, several other power projects have been established as part of the green shift that similarly prevent the Sámi people from living according to their traditions, specifically in relation to the herding of reindeer. In this chapter, we show how representatives of the Sámi who opposed the construction of the wind plant in Fosen envision their future with the wind plants, as opposed to those who were in favour of and who gain by it, through the perspectives of southern, critical, green criminology, and political ecology/economy.
