This chapter defines strength and stability criteria which are to be applied as limits for the design of subsea metallic pipelines. The criteria are applicable for wall-thickness design as well as installation and in-place analyses. Alternative strength criteria based on recognised codes/standards, mechanical tests, or advanced analysis methods such as those outlined in Chapter 14 , Chapter 15 and Chapter 16 may be applied in the design based on approval by Class. If alternative strength criteria are applied in the design, consistency is to be maintained.
