Engagement in Online Social Networking and Its Influence on Publication as a Component of Career Development of Academics

The study explores the impact of online social networking (OSN) engagement on publication as a component of career development of academics in Nigerian universities. It used a mixed method research design, with stratified random sampling to select 210 respondents for the survey and 12 participants for the in-depth interview. The research population include academic professionals from Obafemi Awolowo University and Redeemer's University. Structured questionnaire and interview guide were used to collect primary data. The data was analysed using frequency counts and simple percentages, while interviews were subjected to content analysis. Findings from the study revealed that OSN engagement enhanced the worth of publications produced by academics in terms of collaborations, rate of publishing, and easy access to new ideas and new information for publishing.
