The evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and autonomous systems driven by technological advancements and abundant data access is reshaping industries from mining to transportation, despite the potential of adopting such technologies, organizations encounter major hurdles in realizing their full benefits. Financial constraints, cultural resistance, skill gaps, and ethical concerns, among other challenges, limit their widespread adoption and integration. Furthermore, while AI-enhanced automation shows promise in improving organizational efficiency, decision-making, and adaptability, its implementation often remains confined to specific operational segments. To better understand the adoption, benefits, and challenges of emerging AI and autonomous technologies in industrial settings, this chapter provides a state-of-the-art overview of a cross-industrial survey conducted with companies headquartered in Finland with responses from 207 organizations. Varied in size, turnover, and hierarchy, these organizations offer a holistic view of the current landscape in this rapidly evolving field. All in all, this chapter provides a contemporary view of AI and autonomous system adoption in different industries and provides both operational and strategic insights into different aspects of their organizational use.
