Regulations, Initiatives, and Legislation Regarding the Management of Plastic Waste
摘要
Plastic is a material consisting of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic compounds that are malleable and can be molded into solid objects. Due to its durability, low cost, lightweight, and ease of production, plastic has become a material used daily within the global environment. However, plastics are currently discarded in ways that are harmful and potentially hazardous to man and constitute pollution to the human environment. In light of the commitment among countries globally to safeguard and enhance their environments as a fundamental objective and state policy, there is a necessity for these nations to regulate the production, use, and disposal of plastic waste through international legal frameworks. Although the study identified that there are international legal frameworks and initiatives concerning the regulation of plastic waste within the global environment, there are still challenges concerning curtailing the indiscriminate dumping of plastic waste. In this regard, the study adopts a doctrinal method of study in examining the conceptual issues concerning the indiscriminate dumping of plastic waste within the global environment. Furthermore, the study will also examine the global initiative and legal framework concerning the regulation and elimination of plastic waste. The study will further conclude and recommend possible ways of revamping international guidelines and regulations in curtailing plastic waste within the global environment.
