Surgery of the Nasal Turbinates
摘要
The inferior turbinate and middle turbinates are crucial for the function of the nose. If there is an inferior turbinate hypertrophy causing obstruction, there are many techniques to get rid of this situation during rhinoplasty. Radiofrequency of the inferior turbinate is the most favorable and cost-effective method among all other techniques, both for the patient and the surgeon. Electrocautery, coblation, outfracturing of the inferior turbinate, submucous resection, turbinoplasty, turbinectomy, ultrasound treatment, and other modalities have also been used and discussed in this chapter. HIFU can be an effective and safe noninvasive alternative to current surgical modalities for inferior turbinate hypertrophy. If there is a concha bullosa causing obstruction, the best option is to resect the lateral lamella.
