Establishing a direct causal link between an act or omission and a particular event has always been a concern of the legal profession. However, in the face of new global challenges, legal concepts of causation are increasingly being questioned. One such new challenge has arisen in the context of the growing awareness of climate change and the resulting increase in so-called climate change litigation. The chapter introduces this book’s objective to offer a comprehensive and practical strategy for establishing causation in climate claims.
