In recent years, the eXperience Application Programming Interface (xAPI) has gained popularity for collecting behavior-based learning data from diverse media. xAPI allows generating online and offline data in its format and storing it in a Learning Record Store (LRS). An xAPI profile documents application-related concepts, statement patterns, extensions, and templates, enabling automatic machine processing of xAPI data. These profiles, representing subsets of Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) or tailored for particular use cases, are stored on a profile server for sharing. VLEs consist of components like Learning Management Systems (LMS), Content Management tools, and external content sources, each generating xAPI statements with their profiles and transmitting them to an LRS. However, current methods lack of semantic uniformity in data collection from different VLE components and asynchronous data transmission to LRS. The same action can be described in different ways by different components, and the same verb can have different meanings. This research proposes using Node-RED to collect and track xAPI data from various VLE components and send it synchronously or asynchronously to one or multiple LRS. Additionally, the study demonstrates the normalization of multiple xAPI statements towards an xAPI Profile using Node-RED. Evaluation results will be presented alongside the prototype’s background, concepts, and realizations.
