Digital Twin Framework Proposal Based Uncertainty Management Models Optimisation and Interactive Design

In product design, there are different optimisation methods that allow the development of ameliorated solutions. There are also interactive design tools that allow engineers to make decisions in a more agile way regarding the modification of a variable and their impact on design objectives. This article presents the application of an interactive design method into an operation context through the introduction of a digital twin method. The original method is based on uncertainty management through the CPM/PDD model for the definition of a traceability framework, in which a near to optimal solution can be calculated to meet the assembly of the design objectives in a multidisciplinary context. Complementary, the method includes a graphical tool that offers the user the possibility to modify a variable and understand the design objectives’ compliance. For the digital twin proposal, the tool focuses on studying the impact of modification in external conditions values on the product performance. The combination of sensitivity analysis, with the graphical tool will allow to improve the decision-making process for engineers in terms of anticipation of how an external modification will degrade the product performance. This novel method could complement the process of defining preventive and predictive maintenance processes in mechanical systems.
