Myxoid Cyst
摘要
Digital myxoid cyst, also referred to as digital mucous cyst or myxoid pseudocyst, refers to a benign nodule that is most commonly located between the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint and the proximal nail fold on the dorsal aspect of a finger or toe [1]. Myxoid cysts are the second most common type of benign nail growth, second to nail warts [2]. The nodule is composed of mucinous fluid resulting from degeneration of connective tissue or leakage of joint fluid from the DIP joint. Due to a lack of an epithelial lining surrounding the mucinous fluid, myxoid cysts are technically pseudocysts. The mucinous fluid flows via a one-way valve from the joint space to the pseudocyst space. Because myxoid cysts are in close proximity to the nail matrix, disruption of nail growth and onychodystrophy can occur [1].
