Slovene female servants of the border region between nowadays Slovenia and Italy in past massively migrated from the countryside to urban centres where they very often worked in Italian households. The chapter analyses the issue in longer perspective. Several micro-stories serve as a starting point and the guiding thread for a cross-examination of various researched sources especially quantitative data from three samples of census sheets (1910, 1921 and 1930) from Trieste and oral sources for the period after World War II. It shows how traditionally very solid rural–urban migration model of the Slovene servants/domestic workers have prevailed over political, social and economic circumstances and somehow overcame nationalistic movements/ideologies and the border policies set up by the states in the twentieth century.
