Grid resilience has been a topic of industry focus for the last decade and is critical to modern society. Unlike distribution systems, bulk power systems have their own challenges on resilience: larger system scale, wider area, multitude of stakeholders, and broader society impact. This chapter will address the topic from Regional Transmission Organizations’ (RTOs) perspective, focusing on bulk power system resilience. It will review and discuss PJM’s approaches to improve system resilience, from the aspects of operations, infrastructure planning, markets, cyber, and physical security. Challenges and the next steps will also be covered in this chapter.
