Chronic migraine headaches, affecting roughly 1% of the American population, are a debilitating form of chronic headaches that result in significant consequences on quality of life and loss of productivity. As our understanding of the anatomy and pathophysiology of migraines and headaches progressed, decompression of various nerves in the head and neck has emerged as a recommended treatment modality. Specifically, this chapter will discuss the indications, anatomy, and surgical treatment of migraines through the release of the greater, lesser, and third occipital nerves, supraorbital and supratrochlear nerves, and auriculotemporal and zygomaticotemporal nerves.
