Lithium-ion batteries require careful design and management to ensure safety and performance. There is an increasing need to develop digital twins that help designing and managing the operation of these batteries. This paper introduces an example of an integrated digital twin for a lithium-ion battery module using various toolboxes of MATLAB. The digital twin can estimate the electrical and thermal responses of the module and can be easily replicated and adapted to any potential battery model type. The paper compares and evaluates the digital twin with real data measured in the lab and simulates its thermal behaviour. The paper also reviews the state-of-the-art of digital twin technology related to LIBs, and provides some insights for engineers and researchers who work in this domain.
