Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), big data, and neural networks become buzzwords in many different academies and industries. After two AI winters that significantly reduced interest and research funding for AI topics, many research groups have investigated to solve their own problems, adopted AI concepts in many different fields, and achieved a significant performance improvement. Over the past two decades, many research groups have built a stellar record of achievement in the AI area. The gap between fiction films and the real world has been narrowed. AI already became an important part of many research fields such as image processing, voice recognition, communications and networks, VLSI design, and so on. In this chapter, we will introduce AI techniques and workflow and discuss deep learning in detail.
