The Neurodivergent Other in the Educational System
摘要
This chapter will explore what it means to be a neurodivergent Other within the schooling system. The understanding of neurodiversity is on the rise and becoming more popular in its acceptance. But what does this look like in school from the perspective of the neurodivergent other? How are approaches, strategies and materials changing? How is the neurodivergent individual receiving these changes, and what might the impact be? The chapter will examine the narratives from neurodivergent individuals and their experiences of moving through the education system. The first perspective from the undiagnosed generation of neurodivergent individuals (author perspective). The second, from an individual of the current neurodivergent generation, experiencing the changing educational frameworks and system. The examination of the narratives will focus on the neurodivergent individual as the receiver of the educational system which sits within the current thinking, and theoretical framework of the time period of the narrative.
