Emojis and Their Users: A Review of Demographic Variables
摘要
In previous research (e.g. Yus 2017, 2021), the term contextual constraint was proposed to account for the fact that a number of qualities affect internet communication by exerting an impact not only on the quality and quantity of internet-mediated acts of communication but also on their interpretation, as well as on the overall satisfaction of the interlocutors engaging therein. These constraints mainly relate, among other things, to interface design; users’ interface management; kind of relationship existing between the interlocutors; users’ age, gender roles, cultural backgrounds; or personalities. The term constraint therefore exclusively applies to aspects that underlie (or frame) those online acts of communication and influence users’ interactions; in other words, they exist prior to the communicative activity, frame it and constrain its eventual (un)successful outcome.
