Brain Processes Are Formed by Sign Processes

Starting from the idea that input stimuli function as a sign, we delve into an analysis of the properties of signification. Signs are more than just data: they are a transformational process. What are the events of this process? Because computations are limited to establishing a relationship on numbers, they are not transformational, at least not from the perspective of information as a number. If so, can the computer deal with signs? Can it create meaning? A theory of signification is due to C.S. Peirce. According to him, sign processing uses three types of relations that can be distinguished into three classes. Analytically, we show that the emerging nine sign relation classes encompass the meaning of the nine representation events introduced in the previous chapter. This implies that the process defined by those events can be meaningful.
