Experimental research on visual processing demonstrates that interaction is fundamental to brain activity. The ability of the brain/mind to transform static data from discrete input processing into dynamic responses is evidenced by the cognitive phenomenon known as apparent motion perception: series of static images are perceived as dynamic motion. The possibility of a single type of process follows from experimental research indicating simultaneous syntactic and semantic information processing by the brain/mind. How can information processing by the brain/mind be characterized? First, the input must be represented as a collection of data; second, the two types of input data (state and effect) must be recognized independently; and, third, in combination. Based on these considerations, an information processing model consisting of nine representation events can be defined.
