Accumulating evidence indicates that the PFC is crucial in stress response, activating various systems including neuroendocrine and cellular pathways. Stress-induced changes in the cell division cycle can influence how the PFC modulates its role in higher cognitive functions and emotional regulation. In this context, we discussed the importance of understanding PFC cell cycle dynamics to comprehend its broader implications in mental health, particularly in anxiety disorders. We also explored sex differences in PFC activation related to anxiety. Lastly, we examined strategies for studying PFC cell cycle markers using advanced research methods, aiming to develop targeted interventions that enhance neurogenesis processes in the PFC and ultimately improve care for individuals with anxiety-related conditions.
