Comorbid Psychiatric Conditions and Genetics Accompanying Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation (PE) is characterized by undesired early ejaculation during sexual intercourse in men, representing a sexual dysfunction. The role of genetic factors in the development of PE is based on the notion that specific gene variations may affect the regulation of neurotransmitters, thereby influencing ejaculatory control. It is believed that genes modulating the effects of neurotransmitters may increase the risk of PE. However, further research is needed to precisely identify the specific genes associated with PE. Understanding these genetic factors is considered crucial for comprehending the pathophysiology of PE and developing more effective treatment strategies. In conclusion, further exploration of the genetic components of PE may deepen the understanding of the condition and enhance clinical practices in this field. In this chapter, PE and genetic factors affecting the development of PE will be discussed.
