Psychological Challenges of Parkinson’s Disease: Unraveling Catastrophizing, Anxiety, and Depression
摘要
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder widely recognized for its motor symptoms, yet its impact extends beyond the realm of physical limitations. As the fastest-growing neurological disorder, the impact of PD is widespread across all domains of life. This chapter explores the psychological challenges that often precede the overt manifestation of motor symptoms among individuals with PD. This chapter begins with a fundamental understanding of PD and its clinical features. Next, it explores common psychological challenges of PD, focusing on catastrophizing, anxiety, and depression. These challenges, although less visible than motor impairments, wield a considerable influence on the overall well-being of those living with PD. Lastly, this chapter reviews practical assessment methods to identify these concerns in clinical practice and intervention approaches to empower individuals with PD and healthcare practitioners in navigating the psychological terrain of PD.
