Interlinking Pain Perception and Anxiety in Chronic Periodontitis
摘要
Periodontitis is a complex multifaceted disease that occurs with the accumulation of polymicrobial biofilm at the tooth and gingival interface, triggering an immuno-inflammatory reaction that ultimately leads to the destruction of the tooth-supporting structures. Early diagnosis of chronic periodontitis is crucial in preventing the disease from progressing to severe stages. Dental anxiety and fear are unpleasant feelings caused by the threat of danger and pain associated with dental procedures, which make it harder to manage pain and discomfort during treatment. It’s important to manage pain effectively to improve quality of life and overall well-being. Highly anxious patients with a negative dental experience may exaggerate the levels of pain leading to negative treatment outcomes. The use of various anxiety reduction protocols can help in reducing the overall pain experience of the patients making them feel more comfortable and relaxed during and after periodontal treatment.
