Concluding Remarks
摘要
This chapter ties the findings of all previous chapters together and discusses them in light of the literature on Translation Studies, also providing a takeaway from the research presented in the volume. In particular, it stresses how, in Italy, the publication of underground comix, in some cases represented a missed opportunity since the translation process often led to the loss of the original satirical messages and subversive meanings owing to the influence of editorial policies and ideologies, censorious interventions, manipulations, negligence, lack of expertise, and inadequate frames of interpretation. In fact, translation, which could potentially represent an opportunity to amplify underground authors’ voices, sometimes silenced them. In conclusion, this chapter presents future research recommendations by advocating the need to approach the translation of underground comix (and comics at large) from a new, more conscious perspective, one encompassing their sociocultural specificities and multimodal nature. In this respect, it is maintained that a framework based on isotopic analysis proves to be useful in the field of comics translation; further insights into the applicability of isotopy are encouraged.
