Non-profit organizations are growing in number, but face a significant hurdle in achieving sustainability: limited resources often lead to inefficiencies that hinder their impact. However, innovative approaches, designed specifically for resource-constrained environments, can help bridge this gap. This article focuses on a service redesign for a non-profit dedicated to addressing addiction and mental health issues that faced similar challenges: the organization relied on outdated and inefficient administrative processes that led to delays, data inconsistencies, and difficulty in evaluating program effectiveness. To address these challenges, a collaborative effort involving psychologists, social workers and designers was undertaken. The chosen approach integrated Frugal Innovation principles with the “Community” service design methodology, a tool that facilitates both analysis and conceptualization within Service Design Thinking and considers the needs of various stakeholders in complex scenarios. The proposal emphasized digitizing processes, leveraging open-source software, and using low-cost solutions. Six months after implementation, the organization recognized significant improvements, including faster report generation and increased operational efficiency. This approach not only benefited the organization but also highlights the importance of design for customizing technological solutions to meet the unique needs and constraints of low-income entities.

摘要
