Ecodesign of Marine Industry and Agricultural Sector Devices Using Bio-based Biodegradable Plastics Combined with Additive Manufacturing
摘要
Plastic pollution has reached a highly critical point, 10 million tons of plastics are spread into the ocean annually, causing one of the greatest current environmental issues currently. Bio-based and biodegradable polymers, turned out to be a suitable solution to reduce contamination, as they have mechanical and barrier properties similar to those of petroleum-based polymers, which makes them useful in many fields. In this study, marine industry and agricultural sector devices are going to be designed using CAD software. Subsequently, for the manufacturing of the products, 3D printing is selected combined with bio-based and biodegradable polymers, such as polylactic acid (PLA), blends of PLA with polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) and PHB, which is a novel polymer that is not commercially available in filaments. The aim of this work is to draw some conclusions regarding the implementation of bio-based and biodegradable polymers for marine and agricultural industry using simple CAD design and 3D printing manufacturing.
