This paper investigates the erosive wear of focusing tubes in abrasive water jet (AWJ) cutting processes, in particular the effect of physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating on the tube durability. Through controlled experiments, the wear rates of focusing tubes coated with different PVD multi-coatings are analyzed and compared with uncoated tubes. Initial results show that PVD coatings exhibit higher wear rates in the early stages due to their brittle nature, however they stabilize and ultimately enhance the overall lifetime of the focusing tubes. This study provides valuable insights into the mechanisms of wear and the effectiveness of PVD coatings in the operational life extension of focusing tubes, and also suggests potential improvements in coating techniques to optimize the tube performance.

摘要
