Communication both within healthcare teams and between physicians and patients is necessary for safe patient outcomes and efficient surgical teams. However, there are no standardized instructions for effective communication techniques and leadership skills throughout training programs. In the era of robotic surgery, the surgeon is removed from the direct view of the rest of the operating room team, making it more difficult to respond to visual or auditory cues and affirm receipt of instructions with nursing staff, anesthesia teams, and trainees. The goal of this chapter is to describe effective communication strategies for the robotic urologic surgeon. We also discuss common barriers to communication, which can lead to inefficiencies and patient complications. In addition, we present guides for troubleshooting difficult intraoperative situations requiring strong communication with the operative team.

摘要
