Judge Hannah Okwengu is a judge of the Court of Appeal at Nairobi, Kenya. This chapter presents Okwengu's life and professional trajectory from the magistracy to the Court of Appeal. It uses qualitative data from an interview with Okwengu, conducted by the Institute for African Women in Law as part of the African Women in Law Legacy Project. By drawing parallels between her life and the lives of other women judges, the chapter positions her as a woman who rose from humble beginnings to a top judicial position. Reflecting on her multiple identities, responsibilities, and contributions, the chapter showcases the impact of institutions such as constitutions in promoting women’s representation and the need for the individual to forge their path by taking advantage of these changes.
