The problem of estimating proportions is very common in several areas of science, and the determination of the sample size is a relevant topic mainly in applied studies. We discuss the sample size determination problem for estimating a single proportion or the difference of two proportions under a Bayesian approach. Computational tools in the R language are presented to use these methodologies in practice. Furthermore, illustrative examples are presented.

The problem of estimating proportions is very common in several areas of science, and the determination of the sample size is a relevant topic mainly in applied studies. We discuss the sample size determination problem for estimating a single proportion or the difference of two proportions under a Bayesian approach. Computational tools in the R language are presented to use these methodologies in practice. Furthermore, illustrative examples are presented.
