Preparing to Deliver Behavioral Health Consultation Services
摘要
Implementation of Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) services begins with preparation. While some Behavioral Health Consultants (BHCs) will have the benefit of receiving PCBH training (as described in Chaps. 3 and 11) and will then beging services in a clinic where staff have also participated in PCBH training, many will be reading this book and patching together their own learning and implementation plan. This chapter may be particularly helpful for this latter group of BHCs because it offers numerous practical tools (mostly one-pagers), and all are downloadable from the book’s website, http://behavioralconsultationandprimarycare.com ). These include materials for educating the team and educating patients about PCBH services. This chapter also gives suggestions for BHC location, necessary supplies, and ways to leverage the Electronic Health Record for delivery and evaluation of BHC services. Along with strategies for scheduling, charting, and billing, the chapter suggests measurement strategies for a BHC to use to obtain on-going data about patient functioning. In anticipation of Chap. 8, which concerns the actual start of delivering BHC services, we introduce the GATHER Reflection and Planning Tool at the end of this chapter. It is a brief, practical tool that new BHCs can use as they graduate from Phase 1 Foundation training (when they prepare) and begin Phase 2 training (when they learn while they work).
