User-Centred Design (UCD) is a set of technological design methodologies that places the user at the centre of development. Initially, developers focused solely on technology. Over time, they gradually began to consider people more seriously in their designs. In 2004, the UCD methodology, Usability and Accessibility Engineering Process Model (MPIu+a) (“Modelo de Proceso de la Ingeniería de la Usabilidad y Accesibilidad”, MPIu+a in Spanish), was developed. Over time, Agile development methodologies emerged, which sought to identify system requirements through collaborative efforts with end-user involvement. However, Agile methodologies can be difficult to implement due to their incompatibility with DCU tenets. This chapter outlines the process of adapting agile methodologies to the MPIu+a model for the development of current interactive systems. This research work has a twofold objective: firstly, to improve the MPIu+a methodology by incorporating previously studied empathic techniques that enhance the Accessible User eXPerience (AUX)—this variant will be referred to as MPIu+aX. Secondly, to apply our MPIu+aX proposal to a case study, which focuses on the creation of the Interaccion 2023 conference website, to observe its real-world application. At the end of this document, we present the new challenges faced by UCD in adapting to the changing lifestyles and needs of users.
