The Teachings of the Bouhezza Cheese GI in Algeria Through the Perception of the Actors on the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Effects
摘要
This chapter aims to highlight the effects as perceived by the members of the producers’ association, of the registration of the Bouhezza cheese geographical indication (GI) in the Algerian system of recognition of the quality of agricultural products or of agricultural origin. Throughout the process of obtaining and after the registration of the GI, several changes on the individual and collective level of the applicant group were reported through focus groups: on the level of the market value of the cheese and the volumes sold; on the reputation of the product and the group; on the professionalism of the craftsmen and their skills; on their environmental behaviours. For example, the price of the cheese has increased as well as the volumes marketed, the product and the applicant group have gained in notoriety (calls for testimony, training animation ...). The results of this work confirm that the effects of the (recent) labelling of Bouhezza cheese are palpable on the applicant group and its environment.
