Comorbidities in Children and Adults with Cerebral Palsy
摘要
In this chapter, we explore the range of comorbidities and complications of cerebral palsy (CP). Understanding the child in the context of their family and building relationships is of utmost importance. Together with good medical and mental health care, a child’s participation and quality of life can be enhanced. Managing the comorbidities of CP requires a systematic approach, with recognition that the bodily systems are interconnected. A systems-based approach during childhood will also aid in preparing the young person for their healthy adult years. This chapter includes the example of health systems and the complex care program, which encompasses a team-based approach to medical care, with a medical lead. This systems- and team-based methodology can improve communication between different teams and sectors, as well as the overall inpatient and outpatient experience. The process of transition to adult services requires planning, care and clear communication. The overall goal is to enhance the dignity and autonomy of the young person with CP as they transition to adult services.
