Over the past decades, there has been a substantial increase in the number of trials and quality of evidence for early intervention for infants with and/or at risk of cerebral palsy (CP). Critical to commencing intervention early, during key periods of brain plasticity and prior to maladaptation of the musculoskeletal and central nervous system, is identifying and referring children with and/or at high risk to cerebral palsy specific interventions. Following the publication of international guidelines on early detection of cerebral palsy, there are now international guidelines for early intervention for children with and/or at high risk of CP aged 0–2 years which incorporate evidence from within the field of cerebral palsy and beyond. Whilst CP is primarily a motor impairment, it is essential for early intervention to focus not only on motor function but also on cognitive skills, communication, eating and drinking, vision, sleep, tone, musculoskeletal health for the child and parental capacity for attachment and support for parents and caregivers. The present chapter has been in all fields revised.

摘要
